How much does a DUI cost in 2022?

This calculator for DUI bail cost uses the average cost for any bail bond, which is 10%. Bail percentages can vary by state & be as low as 5% or even as high as 20%. Bail percentages may be negotiable, so you should ask your bondsman.  This fee is generally non-refundable and does not include any potential collateral, if that may be required for your situation. In some states, there may even be additional fees that are not included in this DUI bail cost calculator, which generally go towards law enforcement costs, court costs, victims funds, or any other operational costs.

Bail agents generally have a $100 minimum fee, which means that if your bail amount is below $1,000 (like $500), even though the 10% average fee would be $50, you would still be charged the $100.

DUI Amount

Depending on where you get a DUI, the state may separate DUI (Driving Under the Influence) & DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) into different charges (DWI being more serious). Some locations use DUI as an umbrella for all driving while drunk or under the influence of drugs. Some states have specific programs to combat drunk driving and will have punitively high bail costs as parts of those programs. The cost for the first offense of DWI or DUI can run anywhere between $500 and $2,500 depending on the state. Universally, DUI bail cost increases with the number of prior offenses. The second offense bail cost will be closer to $10,000, a third offense increases that amount to around $15,000, and at the fourth charge, well, it becomes a felony crime with a $50,000 bail cost.

DUI on Suspended License Bail Amount

The DUI bail cost on a suspended license starts at around $2,500. Depending on the reason for the suspension of the license (like for another DUI) there may be a higher bail that reflects the number of DUI offenses the individual has committed. At the highest, a fourth DUI charge can result in a felony charge and a bail cost of $500,000.
